If you are anything like me, that means you try to find used goods on ebay rather than buying new hardware from Dell or HP. So I think I scored pretty nicely with my $425 SuperMicro Server. That was until I ran a bench mark on it.

Not sure why by it seems that IE 7 if you have a DIV and you put something inside it like another DIV or an Image, then you float that item, the item will overlap the bottom of the container div. The fix was very easy but for some it may not work depending on your design. The solution was to assign a width to the container div. This might explain why most newer sites are using fixed width layouts to fit a 1024 display. So if you wan to make the switch to table less layouts, you might need to rethink how you build websites.

One of my neighbors works in management for Comcast here in Houston. After talking with him it would seem that Comcast has big plans for Residential Service in Houston. Like 50Mb/sec type of plans. Or for those of you who prefer to think of data transfer in Bytes. 6.25 MB/sec downloads.

A few of my friends wanted me to blog a little more about my computer setup. With the recent addition of a 30 inch Samsung SyncMaster 305T monitor to my displays, I thought this would be a good time to update the world on what I am running.

For anyone who thinks its a great idea to buy a 1U rack server and colocate their own box. I have a few thoughts about SuperMicro and how they setup their 6014H-32 superserver. Basically if you want RAID 10 you have to buy an extra card. else you are stuck with RAID 0, or RAID 1. Which are great, but when you have 4 SAS drives naturally you want to use RAID 10 for both speed and redundancy.

Today as I was working on my blog, I noticed a google ad that was advertising Colocation and Dedicated Servers. I just happen to be in the market for such products, so naturally I clicked the ad to learn more. What I found made ma laugh. Its obvious that the managers of the datacenter, don't have a clue when it comes to IT.

If you are running Windows Server 2008, and IIS 7. Then the chances are you might have seen this mystery error. The remote host closed the connection. The error code is 0x80070057. After reading multiple forums, I have found the solution.
So if your event viewer is full of errors like this

After some thinking about SSD hard drives, and looking for a logical reason to upgrade to them in my system, I have finally found the reason. Conservation is the name of the game.

After parking some of my larger websites on Godaddy's Dedicated Servers about a month ago. I have found where Godaddy is weak. To say the least By Nov 1st I plan to shutdown my godaddy Dedicated Server, and move them to a colocated box with a local Data Center here in Houston.

This was a question I asked myself recently. Its hard to believe that there are still people out there that don't accept HTML formatted emails. But do mail servers from major providers punish emails that don't provide some old school plain text formatting for the 5 people in the world who are still get their email via compuserve? So I will be experimenting to find out.
