What is the best lawn Fertalizer

Posted on Mar 13, 2008 by Paul White

So spring is here ( at least it is in south Texas ).  My lawn is dormant and it is making my house the eye sore of the neighborhood.  Thankfully I know just the product to green up my lawn, and ensure the grass is greener on my side of the fence. I will be including before and after shots to show the progress.

The following shot was taken on March 13th.  This is of my backyard.  Notice how the only thing that isn't dormant is the weeds.

After using my secret weapon.
Viagro
Vigoro Weed and Feed ( about a 40 lbs bag ). Our yard is 12,000 sqft.  Each bag is good for up to 10,000 sqft. I used two bags to ensure greatness.  This stuff is like Viagra for your lawn.  Just be prepared to mow often as it will keep growing fast for several months.  The only place I have found this for sale is Home Depot.  the 40 lbs bag runs about $20.  I also bought a bag of Ironite for the queen palms and to help make the lawn extra green.  Ironite will make your lawn and palms that dark green color.  I used the ironite lightly on the grass and then heavily on the queen palms.

And Finally here is the result of Weed and Feed.  This was taken on March 25th, 2008

the difference in the before and after are not THAT great if much at all. Scotts is overpriced, Vigoro isn't that great, instead of going to Homedepot or Lowes, just purchses some bags of Milorganite instead.

i suggest you go to your nursery and buy a bag of Lebanon Fertilizer with Mesa since that is what most lawn contractors use. good luck

Thanks for the tip.
Actually later I tried a bag of the Vigoro, and a Bag or Ironite.  The Iron turned my lawn a dark Green color.  Plus my lawn almost needed to be mowed twice a week just to keep it all under control. I admit that pics don't do the lawn justice.  The lawn is thick and green now though.  What is in the Lebanon with Mesa that makes it so good?

I wish they made a product that would keep your lawn dark green, but slow its growth so I don't have to mow every week.
