ATT wireless IP ranges used on data connections

Posted on Oct 28, 2009 by Paul White

Being a good Server Admin, I take pride in my cut throat security measures.  One of the things I impliment is blocking of all IPs except for the ones I personally use.  The problem is often I am away from my office, and a client calls with an issue.  Luckily my Windows Mobile 6.1 phone has remote desktop client and I can remote into the server to see what the problem is.  But for this to work I need to know what IP will connection from and grant access on the server.

Static IP on ATT wireless

I called AT&T, and after getting transferred between various departments, I finally got my answer.  No. They do not provide static IPs to your wireless data connections.  Instead you are assigned an IP that is dynamically allocated from a few Class B IP blocks.

IPs that AT&T wireless uses

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of every AT&T IP range, it's simply a reference for the most commonly seen IP's.

Unfortunately there are a few Class B IPs that are missing for this list.
which means the only way to open my server to my cell phone is to create an exception for the 166.x.x.x and 32.x.x.x Class A IP blocks.
