T-Mobile Houston 3G network gets boost in Pearland

Jun 23, 2010 by Paul White

Tmobile 3G Houston PerformanceToday my Comcast Cable Modem Service went out again.  So I plugged my HTC HD2 phone into my desktop via the USB cable, loaded up Internet Sharing and started tethering.  In the past I would get terrible speeds ( mostly due to not being able to get a strong enough 3G signal.  If I was at home, I was on Edge ( 14KB - 20KB ) transfers at best.  If I was near the towers the speeds were better, but they still couldn't touch AT&T's HSDPA.  So today when I plugged my phone into workstation I wasn't expecting anything special.  But instead I got a big surprise. 3.53 Mb/s downstream, 1.44 Mb/s Upstream via tethering with my HD2 on the Tmobile 3G network in Pearland ( Houston )

Why Apple is OverValued and the IPhone 4 will be its demise

Jun 9, 2010 by Paul White

Apple LogoBefore I get a flood of Apple Fans emailing me, and telling me to go F myself, please read my complete blog in detail before you jump to conclusions.  To make a long blog post short, I feel that Apple has finally hit a point where its getting too much media attention.  This attention will create unrealistic expectations for both consumers and investors.  As a result I feel their stock is overvalued.  The price is currently being driven by speculators who are making decisions by pure emotion and hype rather than looking at the fundamentals of Apple as a company.

Comcast Service outage in Pearland Texas

Dec 5, 2009 by Paul White

Comcast of HoustonTonight comcast had a major outage here in Pearland Texas.  The outage started around 7PM Friday Dec 5th 2009, and of this posting ( 12:19 AM Dec 6th Saturday ) Service was still not restored.  Granted today we had snow, which is rare in Houston ( happends only once a year if at all ).  But still Snow shouldn't affect Comcast Service.  So I figured out how to tether my computer onto my Sony Xperia X1i and use my unlimited AT&T data connection to get online and keep working.  However I was very surprized with the speed I got from AT&T.

Sony Xperia X1i gets H and not 3G on ATT

Jul 23, 2009 by Paul White

So I got my AT&T sim card today via FedEx.  Getting my Sony Xperia X1i online was not a smooth process. Today was a very dramatic day between failed activation and talking with multiple customer service reps.  To Say the least I released my aggression out on the last couple reps, only to find I have HSDPA which is better than 3G.  Feel kind of bad for the reps. but then again I don't

Sony Xperia X1i hand polished chrome battery cover

Jul 22, 2009 by Paul White

Sony Xperia X1i ChromeI like to personalize my gadgets.  One of the nice things about the Sony Xperia X1 is the battery cover is not a cheap piece of plastic.  Its a made of metal, then brushed to give it texture, and painted ( silver or black ). But the paint is not the most scratch resistant stuff.  After a while your Battery cover will look beat up.  So I got out some sand paper, and some metal polish creme, to take my battery cover from dull black, to a near perfect mirrored chrome finish.  I have included before and after shots along with instructions for those who might want to try this on their phone.
